The Rogue Train Kiln is a community wood-fired kiln for ceramic artists built by Monty Zukowski, Jane Anderson, and over forty volunteers from 2022-2025.  All of the building materials were donated by local potters from Clayfolk.  Our first firing was in March of 2025.

Woodfiring creates unpredictable, sometimes magical, results because it is the layering of ash, over the course of two and a half days of stoking the fire, which creates the glaze on the ceramics.  The flow of the heat and ash through the kiln swirls and eddies creating atmospheric effects on the pots. Each firing requires a team to prepare wood, load the 35 cu. ft. kiln, fire it for 60 hours straight, unload and clean up.

To be part of the team, and learn about the woodfiring experience, join our mailing list.  Check our schedule for upcoming firings and orientations. For more details on our process, see our firing plan and our guidebook.

A big thank you to all of the donors and volunteers who made this possible!
